Psalm 122:1
I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.”
The house of the Lord, the place his presence rests. There is a eace that is found, a strength that renews that is found in the presence of God. I so resonate with the psalmist’s expression: joy at having others gather around and encourage him to approach the house of God. I love the house of God. And I love being with God together with others.
I find so much encouragement when friends come to me and lead me into the presence of God – whether prayer, worship, or fellowship. So often, particularly as a leader, I feel that I am constantly dragging others with me that sometimes it’s really nice to have someone care enough about me to say, “Hey, let’s go find the presence of God together!”
There is something natural I think about the value of having others come alongside and encourage us toward God. I think that is how God made us. I am always saying, “We were never intended to follow Jesus alone.” It is not too rare, however, that I find myself feeling as thought I am follow alone. Usually I go and find others to go to God with, but yet I know it is always nice when others come and get me!
I really need people to come alongside and encourage me toward God.
God, I pray that you help me to surround myself with friends
who invite me into pursuit of you.
God, I pray that you grow me as a friend
who invites others into pursuit of you.
Amen.
